History of the library
The Library of Police nad Metují is not only the main building on Masaryk Square No. 75
The history of the establishment of reading associations and libraries in Police has a long tradition. We are one of the towns in which reading societies were spontaneously established in the first half of the 19th century. The year 1837 is mentioned in Police. And a public "municipal folk library" was founded as early as 1892 in the building of the inn „U zeleného stromu“ No. 75. So by moving to Pelly's house we returned to the place of its origin.
Since 1996, the library has been operating in the town as a contributory organization of the town and the then councillors approved the name of the Library of the Town of Police nad Metují. It is also registered under this name with the Ministry of Culture under the registration number 2469/2002. The library has two branches in the municipalities that are part of the town - Pěkov and Hlavňov. On the basis of cooperation agreements and financial subsidies with the municipal authorities, it performs a centre function (expert advice) for the municipal libraries in Bezděkov nad Metují, Česká Metuje, Machov, Suchý Důl, Velké Petrovice and Žďár nad Metují.
